Some works by the Dutch artist Gert Jan Kocken. The first three photographs are from the series “Disaster Areas”, where he made landscape photographs of areas where a disaster has taken place in the past. The last image is an installation called “Building 01″, which he made in collaboration with Krijn de Koning.

What does Christianity, 9/11 and The Federal Reserve have in common?
Well, this movie maybe doesn’t have the exact answers to this question but it has some interesting points. Check out the movie(in full length) on the official webpage and check out the sources for yourself.
Speaking of Arthur, Kalle J could be a young Arthur. Or maybe Burt Baccarach on MDMA or something. Whatever, it’s good stuff.

It’s no secret that Jens Lekman is a big Arthur Russell fan. Here are 2 tracks where Jens appropriated Arthur, with the originals from the man himself.
Arthur Russell - A little lost

Excessive browsing lead to this hilarious record from 1959 by Nancy Walker. To top it up, the cover was voted by The Guardian as one of the worst album covers ever.

Just got this book from my friend Heidi Vogels a couple of days ago. It contains series of photographs that she made back in 2003 while living in Spain.
Quoting from her site: “Borrowed View is a series of projects and publications that question the constantly shifting relation between the mental space of images and their aesthetic surface. A personal archive set within a structure of relations, current events and life spend in Barcelona.” From my point of view, this project is also about how things you see in daily life shifts continually between narratives and forms.
Props to Heidi for tying the project up and making a beautiful book as an end result. Also, compliments to Bart de Baets for the image editing and Like for the graphic design.
The book is due to be released at the beginning of 2008, so what you see up there is just a sneak preview.
I guess it’s vacation time. So, this is something for those couch moments, with shrimps and chips on the side.
I heard about this mixtape called “Guilt by Association”. This is what their myspace has to say:
“Have you ever felt embarrassed listening to one-hit wonders or pop gems of yesteryear? Fear not. Your favorite Indie superstars are giving the OK by joining in together for “Guilt By Association”, a collection of songs by today’s most exciting Indie talent re-interpreting their favorite guilty pleasure pop songs. Petra Haden delivers a soaring acapella version of Journey’s anthem Don’t Stop Believin’. Will Oldham/Bonnie ‘Prince’ Billy turns Mariah Carey’s Can’t Take That Away into a bittersweet synth ballad. Jim O’Rourke, who produced albums for Wilco, Beth Orton and Joanna Newsom transforms the Spice Girls’ ballad Viva Forever into something that wouldn’t have been out of place as a take out of a Beth Orton session.”
Sure, who needs another cover art mixtape thing. But if Bonnie Billy is singing some Mariah, I’ll listen to that. Just wish they’d have made a better video for it.
Okay, another one from the archive of Mr. John Baldessari. A proper nutter.

To celebrate the 75th anniversary of Lego, Wonderland magazine asked Peter Saville–amongst others–to make something out of lego for their Aug/Sept issue. These are his works. Mouthwatering.
